A MARE in gARTen LCconCopyrightSITO
On Sunday 25th November 2018, from 11:00 am till 6:00 pm, Laura Cristin, in collaboration with Giancarlo Da Lio, will open her house/studio (gARTen included) in Bagnaria Arsa, not far from the star shaped city of Palmanova.
It’s all about joy and urgency of a meeting, mostly LIVE, where friends-artists-and-not can share their experiences and humanity. As for art, there will be an hour or more early in the afternoon, devoted to that. Laura Cristin as the host will start with “LaCura” from the homonymous track composed by Dario Della Rossa for “Healing in London” (Kingsley Hall 2017). It’s the chance to be in a participatory performance, fully immersed in the enchantment of Sheren and to practice the different WAVes of Love. Maurizio Follin will continue tracing one of his Way (Via). Whoever wishing so, will be able to contribute.
The spirit and encouragment of the passed-away listed below, with whom we had the privilege to share part of our journay in life, will be the heART of the party.

“incontriAMOci” (Let’s meet at Sheren’s) is dedicated to: Franco Basaglia, Letizia Comba, Angela Fumis and Tiziana Baracchi.

List of participants (in progress): Laura Cristin, Enzo Paviotti, Giancarlo Da Lio, Terry Cazzaro, Levis Cortese, Maurizio Follin, Gabriella Gallo, Maria Teresa Fernandez, Patrizia, Mariangela, Anna, Alessandro, Francesca and more.

In 2018 many anniversaries occur, such as the 40th from Basaglia’s law #180 (May 1978) and of my marriage (February 1978), the 50th from my trip to Bandiera Gialla (January 1968) in Rome with the psychologist Letizia Comba. This June, special coincidances took place around my B.day. The above card can reveal/explain more. Though, the core of it is only detectable by heART!

Around the B.day month

The birthday is always a special day. In one way or another, it makes the chance to retrace the-not-only-my-time of life. Celebrating the memorable date of mid-June with relatives and/or friends is a must. Other remarkable events of art/life this months:
– in Siracusa (Sicily), from the 5th to the end of June, at the Art Gymnasium Gagini, I take part in the mailart exhibition “Io e la Bellezza” (curator Lidia Pizzo for Aretè, Centrum Latinitatis Europae) with “Masks and murals for Trinacria” and the artistbook “Revolt for Beauty” remake of “Re-vault for Goliarda Sapienza 2016 “.
– From June 17 to August 10, I participate in the “First International Biennial of Postal Art in Venice” curated by Ruggero Maggi at Palazzo Zenobio, with the collage “CorresponDANCE 2017 for the Dalai Lama and Tibet”.
– Starting with my B.day “LOOKing forwards” action begins. I will distribute the stickers with the reproduction of the portrait made to Joel Cohen, that the artist sent me from New York in sign of gratitude and in a number corresponding to the years of my life.

57 Biennale Venezia

The 10th May 2017 was a bEAUtiful day at Biennale Venezia. First step, was the not-so-ephemeral installation of the sticker of Joel Cohen with his portrait, second one, attending/being involved in David Medalla and Adam Nankervis performance for the 15th anniversary of their Mondrian Fan Club, last but not least, remembering the impromptu of January 2008 with Dorothea Fayne and Dario Della Rossa, through a snap of “Totem 2004-2008-2017” next to the “Paradise” by Bosch in Palazzo Ducale. Meeting – one way or another – old and new friends is wonderful!

April

Category : exhibitions, mailart · No Comments · by Apr 16th, 2017

It’s Easter time in April this year! From a domestic side, main news are: the municipality calendar hanging in my kitchen displays a photo of my “Anteprima del temporale” that was selected in a previous competition; the painting “The Sticker Dude remembering the joint performance “Just life” by/with Laura Cristin in Coney Island 2012/06/14” was completed (link at http://www.artwanted.com/imageview.cfm?id=1451496 ) and Ragged Edge Press NYC will print it as a sticker. I found the time with my daughter to decorate new terracotta eggs (what a relaxing fun!). The bookmark “Sheren” takes part in “Parolamagica” exhibition (curator Rosanna Veronesi) in Milan, at the historic bookstore Malavasi in via Santa Tecla/largo Schuster (just behind Palazzo Reale) from 19 to 23 April, for the Milan Bookfair.

This year, approaching Christmas, I gave myself many stories that poured out from the memories of people, things and situations met in the months gone by. Soon the recollections linked with the past and developed in dreams for the future. A not-so-tangible ‘Xmas tree took shape in my heART. Next step was to try to make all this visible for the most, before letting it go. The story began with buying an Advent Calendar that resembled the “Wunderhouse” painted in 1987. Saint Nicholas helped me to get four tickets at the front row for a concert in Udine on 2017/02/24. At Saint Lucy Day, I found a pop-up card with the musical instruments in a stationery shop. Revisiting it with figurines so to create new balls, was my favourite past time. Then I sent it out so somebody else could play with it and invent brand new stories. Choosing the decorations for the annual Christmas tree was an apotheosis of memories, not to mention the supermoon of December that crowned it all! This © hristmas Carol is not for sale, but perhaps everybody can create his/her own moment of happyness, being inspired by the selection of trunks, basic foliage, hearts or tops of my tree.

October TRIPs

Category : exhibitions, mailart, around the world · No Comments · by Oct 25th, 2016

October is always a special time for me: memories are revived and take new shapes and perspectives. This year, two main trips occurred: first “Re-vault sTRIP” – already printed in limited editions as a paper-triptych – was sent worldwide in the mailart “calisthenics for the soul”. Second one was the making of “Twin Mother from Udine to Capua”. It’s a portable altar on handmade paper, based on the memory of a 1994 painting dedicated to my mother, enriched with some calligraphic writing at the sides. It will be sent shortly to the Museo Provinciale Campano of Capua, for an exhibition at the Matres Matutae room. All this comes to my mind after having baked a delicious apple cake, that I sprinkled on top with the content of five sugar packets brought from Naples as a keepsake!

On San Gennaro Day, I had 22 copies – in English and just as many in Italian – of “Re-vault sTRIP” printed. The instant book consists of a 3 pages leporello, written on one side and fully illustrated on reverse. It’s about the prior history that led to “Re-vault” textile bust, performance and the developments after August 30th. Among these, a selfportrait in Naples, together with a ‘real’ Sheren.
The sTRIPs will soon be sent to mailartists worldwide.

July news: Magritte, Re-vault, Kingsley Hall

This July 2016 my house has ceased, at dusk, to look like the one painted by Magritte in “L’Empire des Lumières” in 1954 (my birth year). The street-lamps have been substituted: the big ball that used to light the façade from the middle has been replaced with led lamps on higher stems.
In the meantime I started to work on Arcan #16 that I have provisionaly named “Re-vault” . It’s a soft textile bust of Sky and Sea that I am preparing for a performance for the twenty years from the death of Goliarda Sapienza, the author of “The Art of Joy”. She will be remembered in Gaeta on August 30th. “Re-vaults” features the night heaven with Antares of Scorpio and the theme of fertility underneath. It continues and widens the work on the Tarots.
A series of 22 little instant books about “Che Guevara” with original rubberstamps in it, is also ready. These follows the booklet “LC: Laura Cristin for Letizia Comba” that was given out at London Biennale opening in Rome and through the mailart.
Around the 22 of July, in coincidence with the 80th B.day of my friend Dawn Redwood, I will renew my pilgrimage to London. This time, the Brex-it broke my memory of the first imprintings of freedom received there, in the ’70ies. Though, I will get acquainted with the community center of Kingsley Hall where Letizia Comba met Ronald Laing. There, in the place run by the Leisters since the early ‘900, the heaven has seen many peaceful artenative revolts even before the psychiatric one, like the suffragettes’ or the march of hunger. Mahatma Gandhi stayed there for 12 weeks.

The latest participation in London Biennale opening in Rome with disc-performance-video has continued through the snail mail. On 18th May, 33 postcards Palmanova-Rome were sent from Sempeter in Slovenia, worldwide. Each one had a card of Rome (ATC 41 series)in the rear, supposed to be lifted by the addressee so to disclose a personal message written in calligraphy, with different colours of ink.
